Multi-parametric evaluation of dysphonic severity

چکیده

Summary: In recent years, the multi-parametric approach for evaluating perceptual rating of voice quality has been advocated. The present study evaluates the accuracy of predicting perceived overall severity of voice quality using a minimal set of aerodynamic, voice range profile (phonetogram) and acoustic perturbation measures. One hundred and twelve dysphonic individuals (93 females and 19 males) with laryngeal pathologies and 41 normal controls (35 females and six males) with normal voices participated in this study. Perceptual severity judgement was carried out by four listeners rating the G (overall grade) parameter of the GRBAS scale. The minimal set of instrumental measures was selected based on the ability of the measure to discriminate between dysphonic and normal voices, and to attain at least a moderate correlation with perceived overall severity. Results indicated that perceived overall severity was best described by maximum phonation time of sustained /a/, peak intraoral pressure of the consonant-vowel /pi/ strings production, voice range profile area and acoustic jitter. Direct-entry discriminant function analysis revealed these four voice measures in combination correctly predicted 67.3% of perceived overall severity levels.

Social skills in dysphonic children.

PURPOSE To obtain and analyze data from the social skills evaluation of dysphonic children. METHODS This is a cross-sectional and prospective study. Participants were 38 children enrolled in a public school, ranging in age from 7 to 11 years. They were separated into two groups: Study Group (SG)--19 dysphonic children; Control Group (CG)--19 non-dysphonic children. The groups were matched by ...

Voice-related complaints in the pediatric population.

Subjective evaluation of the voice by the patient is routinely assessed in the adult dysphonic population; this is, however, not the case in the pediatric population. There were three objectives of this study: the first goal was to study the ability of children aged 5-13 years to express themselves about physical, emotional, and sociofunctional aspects of their voice. The second goal was to exp...

Sustained vowels and continuous speech in the auditory-perceptual evaluation of dysphonia severity.

PURPOSE Auditory-perceptual evaluation of dysphonia may be influenced by the type of speech/voice task used to render judgements during the clinical evaluation, i.e., sustained vowels versus continuous speech. This study explored (a) differences in listener dysphonia severity ratings on the basis of speech/voice tasks, (b) the influence of speech/voice task on dysphonia severity ratings of stim...
